Clinical Hypnotherapy

Welcome!

Based in Cambridgeshire, we specialise in Clinical Hypnotherapy, either online or In-Person, specifically using solution focused techniques. What does that mean? It's about looking ahead to solutions rather than focusing on the past, to enable you to create positive change.

Now, when you hear 'hypnotherapy,' do you think of stage hypnosis? Rest assured, that's not what we do, ‘you are always completely in control’. Instead, our approach combines evidence-based psychotherapy with the power of hypnosis.

Through safe, affordable hypnotherapy, we work with you to address patterns of thought and behaviour that may be holding you back, such as stress, anxiety or unwanted behaviours. Together, we'll explore practical strategies, enabling you to make meaningful improvements in your daily life.

Our Services

  • Your health and wellbeing are shaped by the connection that exists between your mind and body. Based in Cambridge, we offer both In-person and Online therapy sessions designed to effectively manage stress, anxiety, sleep disturbances, chronic pain, and much more. By tapping into the mind-body connection, we aim to improve focus, boost self-confidence, and reduce symptoms.

Chronic pain can often be related to the complex way your brain interprets pain signals. Pain often persists due to brain interpretations of pain signals. Hypnotherapy helps you shift how your mind and body process pain—so relief becomes possible, even if nothing else has worked.” “Pain changes the brain—but the brain can change, too.” Hypnotherapy helps you shift how your mind and body process pain—so relief becomes possible, even if nothing else has worked.

Digestive issues like bloating or IBS can worsen when you are under stress. Stress can make everyday tasks challenging, significantly impacting both your mental & physical health. Fortunately, hypnotherapy can help break the cycle, by helping to reduce stress calming the nervous system.

  • Fear and phobias can stop you from living the life you deserve, whether it’s avoiding a flight, panicking at the sight of a spider, or feeling trapped in small spaces.

Responses can be overwhelming, even if they seem irrational to others. A fear of flying or driving might prevent you from travelling, while a phobia of needles can make medical appointments a struggle. These reactions are very real to the person experiencing them, often stemming from past experiences, learned behaviours, or subconscious triggers. A fear might cause discomfort, but a phobia can lead to intense panic, making everyday situations feel impossible.

We take a practical stance, and instead of dwelling on the past or why you feel the way you do, we help you define what life would look like if things were different . Whether it’s boarding a plane calmly or facing a spider without panic. We explain how your brain creates these responses in simple terms, then guide you towards a life that you can control.

Typically, a ‘simple fear’ may only require 4 sessions, whereas if you have a more ‘complex’ fear or phobia, we suggest around 8 to 12 sessions, but remember, each person is unique, just like you. • Struggling with a habit or an addiction can feel like an endless cycle, whether it’s the urge to smoke, overeating, or a dependency you can’t shake.

Habits and addictions can often begin as coping mechanisms, like lighting a cigarette to ease stress, reaching for snacks for comfort, or drinking to unwind. Over time, these behaviours become automatic, driven by your subconscious mind rather than conscious choice. Addictions can create a deeper reliance, making it challenging to change without support.

Instead of focusing heavily on past struggles, we help you define what success looks like, whether it’s quitting smoking, eating mindfully, or reducing alcohol intake. We explain how your brain forms these patterns in simple terms and support to you discover a life that you can control.

Hi, I’m Sharon, a registered clinical hypnotherapist based in Cambridgeshire. My journey into hypnotherapy began with a deep appreciation for the mind's capacity to influence our experiences and behaviours. Witnessing for myself how effective it can be, I was inspired to pursue it further. I gained a diploma in solution focused hypnotherapy from CPHT, one of the UK’s leading training providers, founded in 2002 by David Newton, a real pioneer in the field. I also hold the Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma from the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH). I’m fully insured and hold an enhanced DBS check, so you can feel confident and safe working with me.

Beyond hypnotherapy, I also have a BA in Social Work and have studied psychology, sociology, criminology, coaching, and mentoring. With over 10 years of experience working with clients from all walks of life, I'm passionate about helping people take back control and create positive change in their lives

  • Have you ever laid in bed, the day's events replaying in your mind like a broken record? You start thinking about what ‘could, happen, imagining different outcomes.

As an ex-social worker, I ‘definitely’ have.

I remember some nights agonising over my cases, unable to switch off. Emails, client worries – the list was endless. I was trapped in a cycle of negative forecasting, imagining all the things that ‘could’ go wrong. And you know what? Most of the time, they didn't. And even if something ‘did’ go sideways, I couldn't have predicted it anyway!

Sound familiar? We've all been there, caught in that loop of "what ifs." What I didn't realise then was how much time I was spending in the most primitive part of my brain: the limbic system.

Think of the primitive mind as the control centre for our survival instincts. It's home to the amygdala (our fight, flight, or freeze responder), the hippocampus (where we store habits and learned behaviours), and the other key player, the hypothalamus (which regulates the chemicals in the mind and body). As a social worker, I was constantly activating this area, creating habits of worry and anxiety.

Coming home from work but not really ‘leaving’ work. Negatively forecasting potential problems. It was exhausting! My body was flooded with stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline and starved of those feel-good chemicals we all crave. It wasn't a healthy place to be, and I know many of you can relate.

Then, I discovered Solution Focused Hypnotherapy.

It was a game-changer. So much so, that I decided to train as a solution focused hypnotherapist. Now, when I'm working with clients, I feel amazing. I'm helping them empty that metaphorical ‘stress bucket’ that some of you may have heard about – the one that fills up with stress and anxiety.

Before I discovered hypnotherapy, my bucket was nearly ‘always’ full. I wasn't sleeping well, waking up in the night with those same worries swirling around in my head. I wasn't getting enough REM sleep, which is crucial for processing the day's events. Instead, I was carrying everything with me, day after day.

“Hypnotherapy helped me regain access to my conscious mind.”

The conscious mind allows us to think rationally and assess situations objectively. It's generally a positive space. On the other hand, when we're stuck in that primitive part of the brain, we can become obsessive, hyper-vigilant, and constantly on edge – exactly how I felt.

I'm a passionate advocate for hypnotherapy because I've seen firsthand the incredible results it can bring, both for my clients and in my own life. I know how debilitating anxiety and negative forecasting can be. We all deserve the opportunity to manage our stress and find a sense of calm. Stress is a normal part of life, but when we're constantly overloaded with adrenaline and cortisol, it can wreak havoc on our bodies and overall well-being.

"My journey from social work to clinical hypnotherapy might seem like a big leap, but it actually feels like a natural evolution. I'll always have a deep love for social work and one of the biggest things that is has taught me is how to ‘really’ listen, and to understand people's needs. Those years gave me so much insight into the challenges people face, and that experience directly informs the way I work with my hypnotherapy clients now. And honestly, if I ever decided to return to social work, I now feel I'd be even better equipped. Why? Because understanding how our minds work – how stress and anxiety truly impact us – gives you such powerful tools for managing those challenges, both for yourself and for others.

‘My final though’, What someone else deems a 'stressful job' might not feel that way to you, and vice versa. We can be affected by stress and anxiety from all sorts of things in life – unemployment, family pressures, health concerns, the list goes on. The good news is, you're not stuck feeling overwhelmed. There ‘are’ options, and solution focused hypnotherapy is one of them. It's about finding ways to navigate those feelings, build resilience, and create a more positive experience, no matter what life throws your way."

Reviews

  • - Joyce

"I booked with Sharon after reading her credentials. I was keen to find the best hypnotherapist to suit my needs. We had a consultation, and both agreed it was a good fit. My main focus was to help with pain and centring really. My condition meant I was in constant pain, and I couldn't focus or move forward. I am grateful after having the sessions I have become calmer, it's eased my anxiety and in turn the pain. I am also sleeping so much better, so my body and brain are getting the rest it needs. Bonus is I know I can reach out to Sharon again should I need a boost! I can highly recommend Eyes Wide Closed!"

  • - Jessica

"I cannot thank Sharon enough for the incredible support she gave me in giving up vaping after over 5 years of daily use. I had tried to quit so many times before, but nothing seemed to stick-until I worked with her. Sharon has such a calm, reassuring presence and instantly made me feel at ease. Her hypnotherapy sessions were powerful and genuinely transformative. She helped me reframe my mindset, build confidence, and let go of the habit in a way that felt natural and empowering. I never imagined I could feel this free and in control again. If you're struggling to quit vaping or break any habit, wholeheartedly recommend Sharon.

She's amazing at what she does."

"Having experienced anxiety and panic attacks for over 7 years I had tried everything to get these under control. Since my hypnotherapy sessions with Sharon I have been able to control these feelings of overwhelm and haven't had a panic attack since."

"I recently had some hypnotherapy sessions with Sharon, which were brilliant and totally exceeded my expectations. They helped me a great deal with personal anxiety issues that I had been having for some time. They have calmed me down well my mind and gave me a little more confidence and changed the way I look at things, and I actually quite miss our Friday sessions. I would highly recommend her for all your hypnotherapy needs."

  • - Natalie

"I recently had some hypnotherapy sessions by Sharon specifically for clinical solution focus and I can honestly say they were thoroughly enjoyed and surpassed my expectations. While I didn't know exactly what I wanted to achieve at the start, I thought any improvement to be slightly more focused and accountable would be beneficial. While I can't describe what or how this has helped, I can say that the journey was useful, informative and beneficial.”

  • - Natalie 2

“The anxiety I had before has lifted as I had a fear of dentists and was able to get through my dental treatment plan with little or no bother which would not have been the case previously as I had literally hid away from dentists for nearly 15 years due to my phobias previously. I am more accountable and productive in my personal and professional life by personal choice allowing me to look at things through a different perspective than when I started and overall just generally much calmer and less weighted down by stress, anxiety and worry. I also find listening to the sessions very peaceful and can always guarantee a deep sleep after listening to them. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Sharon and if you are on the fence, I can assure you, you haven't nothing to lose but everything to gain. All in all it was a great experience with a great mentor and coach. Sharon explained the process clearly and took time to listen to the issues. I have been pleasantly surprised by the outcome of this experience."

  • - Helen

“I loved my sessions with Sharon. I worked through some issues that had been bothering me for many years and feel like I have found some solutions and have the tools to move forward with a happier and calmer relationship around food. Thanks so much”

“Eyes Wide Closed Thoughts & Insights”

  • Okay, let's consider this. We all do it, right? That mental replay button gets pushed, and suddenly you're back in that situation, reliving it, dissecting it, maybe even changing the outcome in your head. But is it actually ‘helpful’ or is it just mental spinning?

Reflection is valuable,It's how we learn, how we grow. You analyse, you identify alternative actions, and you prepare for the future. "Next time," you think, "I'll do this differently." That's constructive.

But obsessively reliving a scenario? That's different. Are you truly gaining new insights, or are you just reinforcing the emotions attached to that event? Are you stuck in a loop of frustration, anger, or regret?

Maybe the question isn't "What do you get out of it?" but "What is it getting out of ‘you’?" Is it draining your energy? Is it preventing you from focusing on the present? Is it keeping you from moving forward?

Solution focused thinking encourages us to acknowledge the past, learn from it, and then shift our attention to the present and the future.

So, perhaps the next time you find yourself replaying a scenario for the tenth time, ask yourself: "Is this serving me, or is it holding me back?"

    Thanks for reading!

  • It can feel like it takes over, right? Like it's calling all the shots about what you can and can't do.

Ever wonder why sometimes a minor bump feels excruciating, while other times you barely notice a bigger injury?

Part of the answer lies in the "pain gate" theory. Imagine a gate in your nervous system that either opens to let pain signals flood through to your brain, or closes to block or reduce those signals.

So, what opens that gate wide open? Stress, worry, feeling down... all make pain feel even worse. And what closes it? Relaxing, thinking happy thoughts, feeling like you're in control.

Think of it like this: your nervous system has two main modes – the sympathetic nervous system (your "fight or flight" response), which ramps things up, and the parasympathetic nervous system (your "rest and digest" mode), which calms things down. When you're in pain, stressed, and anxious, your sympathetic nervous system is often in overdrive, keeping those pain gates wide open.

Tired of pain running the show? Maybe solution focused hypnotherapy is worth a look. .

    “What do you think?"

    Thanks for reading!

  • It turns out there's a very real link between your brain and your gut, often called the "gut-brain axis." Your digestive system has its own complex network of nerves and it's in constant communication with your brain.

Think about it: when you're stressed, your body goes into "fight or flight" mode (thanks to the sympathetic nervous system). This diverts energy away from digestion and towards dealing with a perceived threat. Meanwhile, the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for "rest and digest," takes a backseat.

    Calming the Storm Within

So, how can you break this cycle? That's where solution focused hypnotherapy comes in. It's a gentle yet effective way to address the underlying stress and anxiety that might be contributing to your digestive issues. It's not about dwelling on the past but about finding solutions in the present and building a brighter future.

    “Here's how it may help”

Taming Your Nervous System: Hypnotherapy is fantastic for calming down the sympathetic nervous system and activating the parasympathetic nervous system. This helps your body shift out of "fight or flight" and into "rest and digest" mode, allowing your digestive system to function more smoothly.

Breaking the Cycle: By learning to manage your stress and anxiety through relaxation techniques and focused attention, you can interrupt the signals that are disrupting your digestion.

Changing Your Focus: Solution focused hypnotherapy may help you shift your attention away from the discomfort and worry associated with your digestive issues, and towards positive thoughts, sensations, and future possibilities.

“Final Though- It's Okay to Talk About It”:

“Let’s be honest, talking about bowel issues can feel a bit awkward. But we all have them, and there's no shame in seeking help. If you're constantly worried about what you eat and how it will affect your digestion, it might be time to consider addressing the underlying stress and anxiety that may be making things worse. Remember, stress and anxiety don't just affect our minds; they have very real physical symptoms.

Take Control of Your Gut Health

If you're tired of letting digestive issues control your life, solution focused hypnotherapy could be a valuable tool in your wellness journey. It's about finding practical ways to calm your nervous system, manage your stress, and regain control over your gut health.
